Who would be the audience for your music magazine and why?

The audience for my magazine are people between the ages of 14-20. Their favoured genres of a music magazine are R'n'B and Indie music, so I have chosen to use both of these genres to attract a wider audience. The audience like reading interviews with artists' as they find these more interesting to read. They are people who like to go to festivals and gigs, which is why there will be advertisements for gigs and festivals in my magazine.

They also like entering competitions on the website, where they can win prizes, or just do the quizzes on the quiz pages in the back of the magazine. I found out that my target audience like to shop in places such as Topshop and Topman, and that is where the majority shop, this means that I can put Topshop and Topman clothes adverts in my magazine. Other places they like to shop are H&M and Zara. The genre of films that the audience like are comedy's, 'Chick Flicks' and romantic comedy's. This means that I can put this genre of film adverts in my magazine.

These people are the audience for my music magazine because that is what the majority of the people asked wanted from the questionnaire, which means the majority of people asked will buy it because it is what attracts them to buy a music magazine.

Sale of my magazine

The Publisher who would publish my magazine is IPC Media. It would be this company because on their website, it has more about radio and music, than other main publishers.

The places which I think would sell my magazine are, newsagents, supermarkets such as Sainsbury's, Tesco's, Waitrose and Morrison's. Also WH Smiths. My magazine will be sold in places such as these because it will be for a mass audience, therefore anyone who is interested can buy it, and because these places are local it will be easy for the reader to get hold of a copy.

To reach my target audience and let them know that this magazine has been released, I will have short adverts on the TV showing a sneak peak of whats inside the issue, to try and intrigue the audience into coming to the shops and buying it. Also I will use large posters to show the front page of the magazine, which will stand out to the readers, and make them want to see where they can buy the magazine and read it to find out more about what the front cover is saying.

Online features that are on offer with this magazine are the online competitions, games, quizzes and more short interviews with artists and bands. There will also be a merchandise part of the website which fans can buy t-shirts, key-rings, posters and much more from.

How my magazine represents social groups

My magazine appeals more to people who like R'n'B music and 'Indie' music. Even though they are two very different genres of music, I have chosen both of them so that my magazine can appeal to more than one type of social group. When I did the questionnaire the type of people the results came to were people who like going on social networking sites, like going to parties, and people who like listening to music in general, so listening on their Ipods, or on radios. I also found out that they watch talent shows such as 'X Factor' and 'Britain's Got Talent', this shows their keen interest for music, and entertainment! The results found out where they like to shop, how much they would buy the magazine for, people they like listening to and also whether they take an interest in going to festivals or not. Another important detail found out was what radio stations they listen too. This is useful because then I would know what music they're into.

This resulted in being one of the most popular listened to radio stations. - Capital FM

Most participants enjoyed watching The X Factor.

In some parts of my magazine there are typical stereotypes, such as for the genre of music, for example the artists who are mentioned e.g. Beyonce. Also there are stereotypes for music magazines in general, such as the interview, and adverts for festivals and gigs.

However there are differences to other music magazines in mine as it isn't just about one particular genre of music, and it also mentions films, TV programmes and shops which relate to the target audience.

conventions of my magazine

My magazine uses conventions which are in real music magazines, because it uses the same colours all the way through, the same fonts, there is a bar code and price clearly visible on the front cover, plugs laid out clearly on the front cover and easy to read with the name of the magazine at the top and bigger than everything else. Inside the magazine there are articles and the main one is an interview with a star! there are adverts and pages telling readers about festivals and gigs and all the information they need. There is a contents page telling where the readers can go to read about what they want. Then at the end of the magazine there is a competition. On the front cover there is a clearly stated email address which the reader can log on to, to take part in games and more competitions. The most important convention is that there are pictures, on the front cover the picture of the artist being interviewed, and on the double page spread pictures of the same artist from the front cover.

This is one of the magazine front covers that i deconstructed, I liked this front cover because I like the layout of the plugs, anchorage and tag line. Also the colours help it stand out on the shelves, having a black background and bright orange writing, this attracts readers, and makes them see it first as it will stand out from the rest.

This is another front cover that I deconstructed, I deconstructed this because I thought it was interesting how it came with a free CD. This would encourage people to buy the magazine because if they like that band then they could read about them at the same time as listening to them! Also the plugs stand out clearly for the buyer, and the pose of the artist on the front makes you wonder what the article is about, which would intrigue you more to buy it.

I also deconstructed the contents pages and double page spread articles about the front cover artist, from both of these magazines.
